October 6th marks National Orange Wine Day, a celebration of skin-contact wines that blur the lines between white and red winemaking. Instead of pressing the juice off the grapes right away (as you would with a typical white), we let the grapes soak on their skins, drawing out color, tannin, and texture. The result is wines with a golden-orange hue and incredible depth.
At Portland Wine Company, we make two expressive orange wines: A Frayed Knot, our skin-contact Gewürztraminer that’s aromatic, savory, and a little untamed, and Walks on Gilded Splinters, a skin-contact Pinot Gris that’s layered, textured, and earthy. Both wines push boundaries while staying true to our love of honest, small-batch winemaking.
This weekend, celebrate National Orange Wine Day with tastes of our two wines plus 10% off bottle purchases (20% for wine club members).
