Love & Squalor 2022 'Walks on Gilded Splinters' skin contact

This dry Pinot Gris from Dion Vineyard in the Laurelwood District gets its rich dark color from fermenting the white grapes on their skins like a red wine, resulting in a bottle of beautiful depth and texture. The act of fermenting white grapes with their skins (skin contact wine) is considered an "orange" wine, rather than a rosé. Ripe Pinot Gris grapes are actually quite dark ("gris" = grey) in hue, so the juice turns a beautiful color pretty easily.

And get this...this very wine just received a warm review from Paul Gregutt. "Lovely texture and mouthfeel, with plenty of crisp apple and citrus fruit at the core."

The Wine Enthusiast gave it 93 points and said "Its aromas are a combination of beauty and sauvage, with lavender and cherries waltzing with earthy rooibos tea and earthy rosemary. Apricots and almonds dominate the palate, where juicy acidity and velvety tannins reside. Editors’ Choice. —M.A."
