(Willamette Valley). Matt Berson of Love & Squalor is a skilled Riesling practitioner, so I was excited to try his pétillant-naturel-style sekt. It did not disappoint. Green papaya, peach fuzz, hazelnuts and yeasty brioche aromas segue into flavors of a mineral-laden tonic water garnished with lemon. This wine is bone-dry and ready to dance.

NEWLY RELEASED! Love & Squalor “Pet Matt” pét-nat is a delicious sparkling sensation. This bottle is 100% dry riesling, bottle fermented. It fizzes on your tongue, has wonderful balance of acid and fruit. Citrus, dry and focused with slight yeasty notes from the bottle aging.

Commonly known as pét-nat, these naturally sparkling wines are the ancestral kin of méthode Champenoise where the wine finishes its primary fermentation in the bottle, trapping carbon dioxide and a sediment of yeast lees. This winemaking style is known as méthode ancestral, which produces a simpler, more rustic sparkling wine than Champagne. Where Champagne is typically crystal clear, pét-nats can sometimes be slightly cloudy. This PET MATT is unfined and unfiltered, and sealed with a crown cap, rather than cork and cage. The Riesling finished primary fermentation in the bottle they are sold in and was left undisturbed until release.
